Training Your Employees to Save on Office Cleaning

No matter what kind of business you run, you will need to invest in office cleaning. This is an inevitable element of owning a business. With this in mind, there are some ways you can train your employees to help minimize your professional cleaning costs. Here are some training tips to help your staff cut your cleaning expenses.

Ask Employees to Keep Their Departments Clean

One of the easiest ways to cut back on your cleaning costs is to maintain a clean work environment overall. That doesn’t mean that everything has to pass the white glove test. That’s what the pros will do. Instead, you can ask each of your employees to keep their departments clean. The human resource department will tidy up the HR floor, the mail sorters will keep the mail room clean, etc. Request that all of your employees take care of their individual zones, and your office will feel cleaner as a whole.

Assign Extra Cleaning Tasks to Each Department or Employee

Depending on the size of your business, you may ask each department or each employee to take on special cleaning tasks once a week – maybe even once a day. For example, you may ask your interns to take out the trash at the end of the day before they leave work. You may ask the managers to clean out the office supply storage once a month. These tasks will vary based on your office structure, but having a system in place will make your day to day cleaning a lot easier.

Create Zones for Eating and Drinking

Try to keep food and drinks in one location in the office, rather than letting people eat at their desks. Your employees may want to eat at their desks for productivity purposes, but that can create major problems for the cleaners. In general, employees need a break from their desks throughout the day to reboot and recharge for the day. Asking them to eat in a break room or conference room could improve your entire business with almost no effort on your end.

Invest in Regular Cleaning Services

It’s always a good idea to invest in regular cleaning services, rather than calling for them whenever you need them. It may sound like this costs more money, but a little cleaning over a long time will save money overall. Once you have a routine in place for your office cleaning, you will be able to predict what you pay for it and how you’ll benefit from it every month. Predictability and planning are the keys to successful cleaning campaigns.

If you establish a system for cleaning from the beginning, your employees will eagerly abide by it. Use this in addition to your regular cleaning services to keep your office looking its best.
