These are common questions we get asked here at our cleaning company, so we figured it was time to set the record straight. Here is all the information you need to know about cleaning your windows in the summer.

Pros of Summer Window Cleaning

Listed below are some of the biggest advantages to cleaning your windows in the summer:

  • Eliminate pollen that builds up during this time of year
  • Increase your foot traffic by enhancing the view for people who window shop or casually drive by your business
  • Get rid of dirt on windows without having to worry about inclement weather (like spring showers)
  • Let in as much sunlight as possible to keep your office looking bright and cheerful
  • The high sun can help hide imperfections in your window cleaning as it reflects off your windows

Cons of Summer Window Cleaning

Here are some of the downsides to cleaning windows in the summer:

  • Window cleaning products dry faster, making them more likely to create streaks on your windows as you clean
  • The intense heat can make it unbearable to be outside cleaning windows
  • It may be hard to see dirt and streaks on the windows from the outside because of the sun, even if they are very noticeable inside
  • Clean, untinted windows let in more UV rays, which can make your office feel hot or even cause sunburn to people sitting near the glass

The Right Way to Clean Windows in the Summer

In order to avoid the heat and sunlight that comes during those hot summer afternoons, try to clean windows in the early morning. This will give you more time to clean up the solution before it evaporates and causes streaks. For windows on the east side of the building, you may want to wait until the evening hours when the sun will be on the west side of the building. You can test out different times of the day to see what works best for you.

Work in small areas so you do not waste cleaning solution due to evaporation. As your speed increases, you may be able to cover a larger areas in the same amount of time. Try to clean the windows as quickly as possible, without sacrificing the quality of your work. If you do a good job the first time, you won’t have to clean the windows as often.

Keep an eye on the weather and adjust your window cleaning schedule to it. For instance, if there is a day with heavy cloud cover during a week of direct sunlight, you may choose that day for cleaning because of the low evaporation rates. If there is a high chance of rain one day during the week, wait until the day after to clean. Otherwise, you will end up with dirty windows that you have to wash all over again. On windy days, try to clean in the same direction as the wind so your spray does not land on windows that are already clean.

Follow the suggestions above to keep your windows clean all summer long, and then you can start to reduce the frequency of your window cleaning during the fall and winter months.
